About Us

The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) holds a prestigious position as the sole governing authority of Taekwondo in Ghana. Taekwondo gained official recognition as a sport in the country in 1978, marking the beginning of a rich and thriving martial arts culture. In 1981, the GTF took a significant step by affiliating itself with World Taekwondo (WT), the global governing body for the sport, thereby establishing a vital link to the international Taekwondo community.

Registered with the National Sports Authority and holding membership in both the Ghana Olympic Committee and the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) plays a proactive role in advancing the promotion and development of sports on a national scale. By aligning with the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, the GTF underscores the inclusive essence of Taekwondo, broadening its impact to encompass athletes facing physical challenges. This collaborative effort goes beyond the realm of sports, nurturing a spirit of unity and empowerment among individuals who may face unique obstacles in their athletic pursuits. The GTF’s commitment to inclusivity is a testament to its dedication to making Taekwondo accessible and beneficial to all, fostering an environment where every aspiring athlete can thrive and contribute to the rich tapestry of martial arts in Ghana.

The GTF plays a crucial role in organizing national competitions and events, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and compete at various levels. Through rigorous training programmes and grassroots initiatives, the federation aims to nurture talent, encouraging the growth of Taekwondo across diverse age groups and communities.

In addition to its commitment to athlete development, the GTF prioritizes promoting the values of respect, discipline, and sportsmanship inherent in Taekwondo. Educational programmes and community outreach efforts underscore the federation’s dedication to instilling these principles not only within the Taekwondo community but also in society at large.

The GTF’s collaboration with schools, clubs, and local organizations underscores its commitment to spreading awareness about Taekwondo and creating opportunities for individuals to engage with the sport. By fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and mutual support, the GTF continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Taekwondo in Ghana, contributing to the nation’s sporting legacy and international representation.
